Santa Monica's Impact On The Community

In addition to its own fire and police departments, Santa Monica’s official leadership consists of the elected local government, Mayor Ted Winterer and a City Council made up of six ancillary officials (Santa Monica City Council, n.d. a). Smaller divisions and committees oversee various departments of government jurisdiction. Santa Monica’s Mayor impacts the community through his awareness and willingness to work on issues such as homelessness and affordable housing (Santa Monica City Council, n.d. b). Santa Monica also has its own school district (the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District), which impacts the community because it is separate from Los Angeles and thus able to prioritize the more specific educational concerns of the
