I have been blessed to be a part of my Leadership class for the past three years now, and have lived off the motto of “service above self” because of it. Looking out for others and putting their thoughts and emotions before mine, has ultimately lead to a more sustainable environment at school where spirits and emotions are brighter with the students. By being given the opportunity to embrace this involvement, I aspire to bring my understandings to Santa Clara University. I believe that I can embrace Santa Clara’s visions, especially that of educating capable leaders to build a more humane world. Conclusively because I’ve already witnessed this type of vision at my own school. Not only do I want to learn more about this, but I also want to

Responsible Leaders are servant leaders, accountable for their actions and their consequences. I am attending GCU because I am learning important values to succeed in life. I am learning that “faith is a precious gift for those who have it and without it, nothing is possible” (Joyce, 2012, p.132). GCU’s vision is leading a Christian academy by educating scholars to become leaders and servants (Mission and Vision at Grand Canyon University, 2008,…

I identify greatly with the vision at Santa Clara University. Ever since I was young, I have dreamt of changing the world for the better. I hoped one day I could save the world from itself. To be the superhero that would swipe away the conflict and pain that is ever present in today’s media. While the dreams of saving the innocent from super villains has faded, the backbone and underlying foundation has not dissolved.…

Leading an organization of 170 members was a difficult task in itself, but being handed the trust of the incoming freshmen, and having control over their first high school experience was intimidating. Never having led such a large group, it required a new dimension of leadership to make sure that the entire organization was always on board with the program’s aspirations of welcoming the freshmen to Stuyvesant’s vibrant community and guiding them throughout the year. I found myself having to be more assertive and organized. And although it was a sudden change from the more intimate style of leadership I was used to, it was thrilling to have such a great impact on my school’s community. I expanded the program to work more closely with the Student Union, introduced a one-on-one meeting system between the Big Sibs and the freshmen, and developed the Big Sib…

“I’m not saying I’m gonna change the world, but I guarantee that I will spark the brain that will” by Tupac Shakur. This quote has grounded me in my life’s dedication toward empowering young people because as cliché as it may be, they are the future. I believe that one of the greatest tragedies of society is the severe lack of opportunities and resources for youth. I hope to address these inequities and empower youth leadership through the UC Davis Community Development Masters program. I’ve participated in several community based participatory research projects that have refined my interest in youth development.…

Partaking in the student council organization has allowed for personal and leadership growth, and is comprised of plentiful downfalls and successes. But I believe that it requires missteps and prosperity to learn and grow as a leader. In terms of strength, my skills in proper and adequate delegation tasks have contributed to the successes of my class. However, delegating and simply telling others what to do is not leadership, it is the act of collaborating with one another to execute an event or achieve the goal. Ultimately, I believe that it is my ability to uplift and empower others as my greatest asset.…

The ISLLC School Leadership Profile was an important activity in this journey, my overall score of 1 shows that I still have much to learn about the role of an educational leader. My vision assignment actually helped me to pinpoint leadership responsibilities in designing, revising, and carrying out the school’s mission and vision. I see now that education leaders are held accountable and are uniquely responsible for developing and implementing a vision of learning in order to guide decisions and actions. As a leader, I will be charged to guide a process for developing and revising a shared vision, a strong mission, and comprehensive goals that are not just appropriate but…

A good leader will be able to create visions that are measurable and attainable. In order to do this one must understand the institutional climate. They must understand the population of students served and the strengths of those who serve the students. As stated by Sergiovanni, (1992), “Leadership mindscapes are shaped by what we believe and value and by our understanding of the world” (p.41). A leader of one area such as student services must collaborate with other leaders from academic affairs to create a cohesive climate.…

Student leaders leaned back on what they knew about leadership transition from their previous leaders. The guidance that past leaders had imparted had a meaningful impact in a number of ways. The socially responsible leadership model can help to make sense of this phenomena. College students are constantly developing their leadership skills as they take on new positions and responsibilities. Therefore the previous leaders have a profound impact on the student organization In this way, I argue that the leadership transition is even more meaningful than thought because it becomes relevant to how future leaders pursue passing down leadership.…

My leadership philosophy is one that is rooted in the strong belief that it must be a continuous quest to motivate all students to become critical thinkers, effective communicators, and lifelong learners, while possessing outstanding character. This includes assisting students with discovering their talents and interests, therefore developing a love of learning, while developing into ethical, productive citizens. Accomplishing this requires a leader who is knowledgeable in pedagogy and curriculum, including the use of data and current assessments to enhance instruction, and who possesses outstanding communication skills, the ability to manage an operation’s resources effectively, promotes collaboration and teamwork, and is passionate and committed to helping students learn. I believe that my interpersonal skills will be my biggest strength as an educational leader. Through frequent, honest communication, and my enthusiasm for the subject, I will demonstrate understanding and compassion for those around me, therefore building trusting relationships.…

I can still remember the day when my parents told me the phrase, “You are a leader, not a follower.” It was in kindergarden right after I told them about a few girls who were making fun of a friend of fine, and I decided to stop them and defend her. When my parents told me that phrase, it definitely stuck with me throughout my life. I think that’s a phase most kids hear time to time in their childhood. It’s that phrase that makes you question, what it a leader?…

The week of June 20th-26th 2016, life hit me square in the face, when I attended the FFA WLC (Washington Leadership Conference) in Washington D.C. This has become one of the most memorable, life changing experiences, through the things I not only herd about, but seen personally. I made a bunch of new friends around the country that all share a hobby in not only agriculture, but leadership. During the five-day event, members learned how to “become effective leaders by learning their purpose, how to value people, how to take action and how to serve others” (Washington Leadership Conference). On the first day, the volunteer past state, and national officers…

I was fortunate enough to attend the 2016 H. W. Sumners Leadership Conference where I would have the opportunity to meet a unique pool of influential individuals. Most of my leadership experiences had come from group projects with students who I were familiar with, and the conference gave me the chance to become a team with strangers from across the United States and Mexico. I was not aware of how much I was actually going to get out of the conference. Through the elective workshops, I learned much more about my leadership style and who I could become as a leader. Through the speakers, I learned about the power of creating a vision and pursuing with unyielding faith.…
