Sanders's Argument Essay: Choosing Responsibility

Decent Essays
As a wise woman once said, "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much". Humans who work together usually achieve more than those who work alone. One genius alone will not produce the same results as a group of geniuses together. Scott Russell Sanders explains that " We all need seasons of withdrawal from responsibility", but this does not mean that we can spend our entire life avoiding responsibility. In order for a society to succeed, all of its members must work together and each of these members must take responsibility. We cannot spend our entire life avoiding responsibility like this woman who went to places where nobody would expect anything from her. If a community wants to grow and flourish, then all of its members must work together and we must all take responsibility rather than avoiding it. Scott Russell Sanders states that a community can support only a number of people like the woman "who are just passing through, or who care about no one's needs but their own". A community will flourish when the people in that community care for all those around them. We need other people around us to succeed or we will just …show more content…
A community will remain strong if all of its members take responsibility and show care for one another. There are many strong communities that have gone though a tough time but remained strong as a whole. When the Boston bombings occurred, we all stood together as a community and helped each other through the tough time. We all showed support for all those who were wounded and we stuck together as a community. We all took responsibility and helped those around us. This is what a community is supposed to do. If we did not care about those around us, then we would not have stood together. If we did not stand together, then the community like Sanders said would "eventually break

While it should be no surprise that Sanders, who stands behind a podium with the White House seal and regularly lies to and misinforms the American people, would borrow a line from an average cat caller on the street, it is doubly upsetting for another reason: Sanders is only the third woman to serve as White House press secretary. But let's recall that her job is basically to justify the actions and/or deflect accusations away from a man who was infamously heard, loud and clear on tape, boasting that serial sexual assault was a perk of his "star" status. Regardless of how much harm or harassment a person consciously intends to cause a woman by using it, the request itself assumes that women owe the world -- and principally men -- something.…

Late English professor Scott Russell Sanders essay “Under the Influence: Paying the Price of My Father’s Booze” was originally published in a collection of essays titled Secrets of the Universe: Scenes from the Journey Home, an insight of his childhood going into an awareness of his adulthood. Sanders felt as if alcohol changed his dad completely when he is under the influence which transformed sanders outlook on life. The narrative story does not intend to make readers show sympathy but show them that Sanders was really affected by his dad’s actions and does not want to do the same to his children. Sanders uses narration, description, definition, and compare and contrast modes to explore his dad’s long-term addiction to alcohol, how he compares outside experiences to his dad’s reactions, and more importantly, evaluates his dad’s personality when he is under the influence and when he is sober.…

I think Bernie Sanders performed the best in this debate. He was very passionate while making his points, which I believe is important to get things done. Bernie answered the questions quickly and with confidence because he has had an unwavering stance on the topics. Also, I liked how he said, "Americans are sick of hearing about your damn emails." Funny, but also true.…

While the republicans have their side to these political issues in the United States, the democratic candidates do as well and they are completely the opposite of what the republicans have proposed. Bernie Sanders, a democratic candidate suggests that education should not be deprived to anyone and therefore announces that he wants two years of state colleges to be tuition free. Since empathy and compassion is a balance point, then to have a balance, there must be the opposite. If our city doesn't have a level of fear, then what keeps empathy and compassion from tipping over the scale and possibly creating a backlash? Similar to what Thucydides says: "the strong do what they will and the weak suffer what they must," but, the strong do what they can because that is a sort of harmony. Even if people try to be as compassionate and empathic as possible, there will always be those who suffer because of it. There are good intentions and good actions that create bad situations depending on what group we look at.…

A community environment serves an important function in shaping our personal development and belief system. The community an individual grows up in says a lot about that individual as a person. With strengths, comes weaknesses and every community differs in many ways. The community I grew up in may differ from the community others lived in, and that’s what makes us all unique and different from one another. No matter if you live on Grand View Drive or you live on the south side of Chicago each community has its different problems, and just because someone may live in a different neighborhood than you doesn’t mean you are complete polar opposites it just means you experience obstacles differently in your daily routine and that is completely…

We live in a society where you will always be given credit or blamed for one’s action. Each individual leaves a legacy, in their legacy he or she will learn something from experience and take it for a life lesson. Emerson once stated “Society everywhere is in conspiracy against the manhood of every one of its members… the virtue in most request is conformity”. My interpretation of the quote is that society robs us of our identity or individuality. This quote compliments the Novel Scarlet Letter and conspires to the main character to the book.…
