Sand Trays

Expanding my knowledge has been work in progress, specifically, in the coming weeks my new goal is to know how to determine if a patient is appropriate for placement at our facility. In other words, if there is a bed open, what would prevent the DAC from accepting them? Then, what is the procedure for intake and the process for admission, and what goes into a treatment plan once a patient is admitted at this facility. Additionally, figuring out what all the abbreviations mean on the daily patient spread sheet is a goal that will be advantageous for my growth as an intern. These I find to be a wise addendum to my original goals considering that it would be conducive for my knowledge of the field, and I would be more salutary for the agency if I could pass along this information as I answer the phone at the hub. …show more content…

Obviously advantageous to the helping professions, this creative tool may prove to be my new favorite learned abilities. Sitting in a session with Nettie, a primary counselor at the DAC, was the impetus for this notion. It was inspiring to see how effectively this art invites the patients to reveal their values and perspectives by not only the items placed but how they are arranged as well. The impetus for enhancing my professional attitudes and values is my interim review. The feedback I received stated that I would benefit from supervision regarding self-disclosure. I graciously accept this observation as an opportunity to become aware of this tendency of mine, and if and when self-disclosure is appropriate at this type of facility. Afterwards, I asked Chris what the DAC procedure is, basically, it depends, but the welfare of the patient is the primary deciding

Kipnis (2006/2008) concludes his argument by stating that “confidentiality… is effective at getting more patients into therapeutic alliances more quickly, it is more effective in bringing about better outcomes for more of them and—counterintuitively—it is most likely to prevent serious harm to the largest number of at-risk third parties” (p. 56). He is adamant that confidentiality and trustworthiness are the professional, moral requirements of doctors, and they are not to be broken even if legal precedent requires…

Moral distress is defined as an inability to act according to one’s ethical principles by the moral agent due to various influencing external constraints such as time pressures, organizational, legal, and/or authoritative barriers (as cited by Ulrich & Hamric, 2008). According to de Veer, Francke, Struijs, and Willems (2013), nurses often experience moral distress due to the inadequate staffing, job pressure, higher societal demands, and conflicts between institutional rules and one’s moral values. Moral distress can lead to disturbing consequences, such as burnout, turnover, fatigue, frustration, physical illness, anger, powerlessness, and a host of other worrisome and painful outcomes. The moral distress I had experienced is when my patient walk against the medical advice (AMA).
