Multicultural sensitivity is critical in today's workforce environment. It influences how employees interact with each other as well as the children, youth, and families they serve on a daily basis. As an example, the agency where I am currently placed does address multicultural sensitivity with children, youth, and families. They do so by building multicultural awareness through formal training on different topics such as, diversity, motivational interviewing, professional ethics, etc. In addition to this, the agency is certified in utilizing the Sanctuary Model. The Sanctuary Model is an outcome-based, trauma-informed, and whole culture approach that provides a clear and structured way for creating or changing an organizational culture. The Sanctuary Model provides the following commitments: diversity, nonviolence, emotional intelligence, social learning, open communication, democracy, social responsibility, growth, and change. …show more content…
By implementing trainings like these, employees are more likely to increase their multicultural sensitivity in the workforce (McDowell, Goessling, & Melendez, 2012). The agency also makes an effort to recognize the holidays of each employee and youth’s culture. Because of this, cultural conflicts are minimal. This also provides opportunities to learn from cultural differences, ultimately increasing multicultural sensitivity within the agency (McDowell, Goessling, & Melendez, 2012). In considering this, one of a social worker’s responsibilities is to enhance the well-being of all individuals through diversity, research, direct practice, etc. (NASW, 2008), whereas addressing multicultural sensitivity enhances the workforce’s morale as a
