Biography: San Martin was born on February 25th 1778 in Yapeyu beside the Uruguay river. His father was a soldier and administrator of Yapeyú and both of his parents were Spanish. In 1786 he and his family moved back to Spain. There Martin is 6, and he studied in the Noble Sematary of Madrid for 4 years. He then joined the military and fought against Napoleon's troops as a lieutenant colonel. He moved back to Argentina at 34, replacing Manuel Belgrano who was currently there from Spain. He successfully lead Argentina to Independence. He then brought his military North. San Martín lead his army through the Andes Mountains into Chile. This was a surprise and daring attack. This defeated royalists in Chile and by doing so, earned Chileans their
