Provide a brief introduction about the city and why you chose it. The city of San Jose is in the heart of Silicon Valley in Northern California. San Jose has the third largest population in California. San Jose is unique because it has a very congested high rise city area as well as suburban and small communities within the city. During my research, at Building Resilient Regions Institute of Governmental Studies, I saw that San Jose was ranked 87th on the RCI list. (RCI) I chose the city of San Jose because I am originally from the East Bay in Northern California and I was not impressed with San Diego’s ranking where I currently reside. I also took the time to check to see how much information I could find on the city’s website about their …show more content…
(San Jose) At first I thought the information provided was helpful but vague, however I was wrong. There are links that connect visitors to see the local government’s 474 page written out plan. The plan involves the vision, strategies, growth, key issues, diverse and innovative economy, arts and culture, community engagement, fiscal sustainability, measurable environmental sustainability, environmental resources, environmental considerations and hazards, infrastructure, quality of life, vibrant communities, community design, housing, education and services, parks and recreation, land use, transportation, and the implementation of the whole plan. (San Jose) San Jose demonstrates how series the city is in becoming part of the solution that is needed nationwide. The beauty of their plan is that it gets an annual review. This is important because we all experienced people and government talking the talk but as soon as we eat it all up, the plan just becomes stagnant. I believe they have taken the right steps in achieving their high RCI ranking, although I think they should encourage community gardening in their annual meeting so they can add it to their sustainability plan. San Jose’s plan is very encouraging compared to other cities in the United States, nevertheless, I am wondering if their plan is already becoming outdated. I would like to see San Jose more focused on encouraging the community to become more resilient in terms of
