I believe that Texas was justified to declare independence as its own nation. In Texas’s perspective, they were fighting against an oppressor, like the Unites States fighting against the tyrant King George; in this case, General Santa Anna was King George, earning himself the nickname, Napoleon of the West. In his letter, Colonel Seguin wrote, “... they prefered to die a thousand times rather than submit themselves to to the tyrant’s yoke.” Many of the Tejanos and Americans living there opposed the suffocating leadership from the General from their previous lifestyle of being so independent.
