San Francisco Westside Ridge Analysis

The Artwork I chose for this project is the San Francisco Westside Ridge. It was made at 2001 by Wayne Thiebaud, the now 94-year-old artist who spent 76 years of his life making 120 drawings, etchings, prints, and paintings. All of his 120 artworks are at Pasadena Museum of California’s Art, including the San Francisco Westside Ridge.
The San Francisco Westside Ridge is a 36 x 36 in(91.4 x 91.4 cm) oil on canvas with the painting being a view of California,San Francisco in a bird’s eye view.

In the foreground you see a road going downhills, possibly coming from a mountain, intersecting with another road. On the road you will see two sidewalks with street light and wires on top of the street lights. On the left you see a white building with orange stripes and a green roof. The building has a brown door with columns on top of it.

In the middle ground you see the road that intersected with the road at the foreground. The road is depicting shadows, in which you notice the shadows are from the buildings near it. There are couple of buildings sticking from the green steep land, one of the buildings being a water tower. On the right you small buildings one holding a picture of a woman, and another has a porch with a person on it. There’s a small glass tower that I believe is used for business. On the right side you see even more buildings, but near the buildings you see a mountain with a wall around it.

At the background you will see even more roads but this time it stops at the peak. On the left side of the building you will see a park with tree and a bush. If you look closely, you can see a person with a baby her walking along the trail road. There’s a mountain and around that mountain you will see an orange building . On the right side there are buildings with a pine

This is because I have never been to the ‘Iolani Palace before, whereas I’ve been to the Bishop Museum numerous times, I chose to take the opportunity to do something different. I found the antique plumbing interesting, and also the way the palace was built to keep the kitchen cool. I found it quite fun, and in the next few paragraphs, I will explain to you to you my royal experience.…

Choosing the sequence of the film -The scene opens with a beautiful location going to Bradbury building(the hiding spot of Pris), resembling a an apartment complex in European classical look -Aspects of mise-en-scene make the world seem realistic and like they are really happening; though these images are unfamiliar -the audience is able to relate further into an unrelatable, futuristic setting. -Background filled with neon, bright lights. -These differences represent the difference between inherent human society which appears to be dark and shadowed, and the delving into the unknown and how exciting and mysterious it can be. Choosing this sequence was mostly due to the fact that beautiful elements were utilized in this excerpt, ground-level shots, aerial shots as well as low level shots were utilized and they all aided to a larger understanding of Deckards character and motifs of the story such as isolation, unknown adventure, and inevitability..…

This photography is an innovative video work of Daniel crooks, which it used multiple slices of moving an image to create a movement of people cross paths and overlap the road. I can clearly see that this video has been taken in somewhere in China, as the Chinese labels are very obvious. It is noticeable that there were a number of people walking across the road path. In addition, it seems very crowded in this picture, which it provides me with an understanding of Chinese’s cultural and their daily lives. In this photo, Crooks stretches the real time of the video to draw an attention of the viewer into a digital collage.…

Discovery involves complex paths, decisions, choices, and varying points of view; though the actual discovery is important, the path that is taken, the journey to make a discovery is what forms the impact and importance. In his diary, Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara remarks on how much he had changed over the course of his trip without even realising it. While reflecting he notes what changed him in the journey and encourages the audience to notice the changes as well. The War of the Worlds, illustrates the impact a single decision can have, even if it may seem insignificant. The visual text, a cover for the novel ‘Trash’ conveys all the possibilities and decisions that could be made in the situation the audience may imagine.…

The poem that I chose to transform into a different medium is “Darkness Starts” by Christian Wiman. The poem focuses on the idea of the evolution of light to dark, taking a positive subject and transforming it to something negative. Each new stanza the poem holds on to the theme of the gradual change and development of people and objects, but restarts with a new subject. Wiman starts off with a house, then trees, then an undefined subject, and finally children. He explores how “darkness starts” inside of all things, and eventually makes its escape.…

The road, or more appropriately named, the path, that led to Opal, essentially consisted of dirt, and what appeared to be barbed gravel. Needless to say, it wasn’t the most favored path to traverse, amongst the neighbors, especially those with wagons of poorer quality, as the spokes of the wagon would often break, or create a hitch. While I didn’t so much have an issue with taking the path, aside from the pseudo-agonizing distance, it was truly, and utterly, an eyesore. However, I did enjoy the views of both the left and right side of the path; of which, both, consisted of rolling hills, coated with lush emerald-tinted oceans of green. Defying the preconceived notions of many, under my assumption, the day was truly transitioning into a prepossessing…

Hatshepsut’s Temple at Deir-el-Bahari was constructed after queen Hatshepsut obtained the status of being considered “god-like” and Kind during the period of 1479-1458BCE. The constructor of the temple was determined to be her steward, tutor of Neferu-Ra, and possibly the potential “lover” of Hatshepsut herself. Her temple was modeled after the mortuary temple of Mentuhotep II. He was the considerable Thebian King who established the 11th Dynasty & began the center Kingdom of Egypt (2040-1782). Hatshepsut’s temple was excessively & purposely created in such a grand stature to represent the “greatness” of Hatshepsut during the era of her rule.…

The cloud mist lifted and the landscape unraveled from beneath. Roads slithered across the great expanse of the Earth. They coiled around subdivisions, a series of homogenous fixtures when viewed from above. The checkerboard squares of green terrain waned amidst the approaching urbanization. Even from 10,000 feet in the air, the giveaways of the West were discernable — a Wal-Mart here, a baseball stadium there, the occasional backyard swimming pool.…
