The Coahuiltecans assisted in establishing the community. The relationship between the other Natives, the Apache and Comanche, with the settlers was unwelcoming. The Spanish sent Franciscans who were responsible to protect the Natives and convert them to the Catholic church. The Natives were a big part of the missions they were introduced to the Spanish language and Catholic religion of the settlers and later blended to create a diverse population. These Natives worked with the settlers, built alliances, joined the community, and practiced the Catholic religion. Their citizenship was dependent of their faith. On the outside Indian tribes, Apache and Comanche, did not feel the same way which caused them to attack the missions and leave the settlers feeling threatened. The local natives of the Missions also felt the intimidation of the Indian tribes. This intimidation was one of the reasons the local natives were so willing to acclimate to the Spanish settlers and convert. Noting that the French and English were also trying to colonize would have made a very different San Antonio. The church being the center of their lives continued to shape and influence the city of San Antonio. The Natives who were soon introduced to the language and religion of the settlers; becoming fundamental to the development of the missions. Some of the Natives worked with the settlers, built alliances and joined the community, getting jobs and practicing the religion. Through the shared feeling of aggression and intimidation from the Comanche and Apache Indian tribes, the natives and settlers united.The city of San Antonio was helped founded by these two groups unity.
