Light also creates the emotions in James Ingo Freed’s United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C. It may not play as important of a role as in the Jewish Museum but still has some purpose of light and dark qualities to it. “The visitor’s passage through the building is a spatial and emotional journey through open light spaces into damp cramped dark spaces, over ramps and bridges, and through doorways that evoke the ‘selection’ of victims in the camp.” Freed’s idea is to create an emotional rollercoaster throughout the building similar to what a Jew would have gone through from before the war where they were normal, to the change of classification to vermin, and finally to freedom to reflect on the loss and how to cope with…

If we make a trip to Fredericksburg, we will combine the Fredericksburg Historic District with the National Museum of the Pacific War. Based on their addresses, we may want to do the same with the Natural Bridge Caverns and the Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch. The San Antonio Botanical Garden, the Witte Museum, and two attractions from our secondary list, the San Antonio Japanese Tea Garden, and the San Antonio Zoo and Aquarium, are all either in or adjacent to San Antonio’s Brackenridge…

The Heard Museum The Heard museum was founded in 1929 by Dwight and Maie Heard, and has become internationally recognized for its collections, education programs, and festivals. The museum prides itself on portraying Native arts and culture in a sensitive and accurate way, while telling the story of American Indian people with art. I had no preconceived ideas about the museum, I knew a lot about Native Indians, First Nations peoples in certain tribes, but I also knew there is more to learn, therefore, like in any other new experience, I approached it with an open mind. As the tour began, it was explained that the Native Indians lands in Arizona once encompassed the entire state and more. However, their lands currently only cover a small percentage…
