One thing that was important to the Samurai were The Seven Virtues. The Seven Virtues of Bushido are: Justice, Courage, Benevolence or Mercy, Compassion, Honesty, Honor or Dignity, and Loyalty. The Virtues are important because it embodies a daily code of living for the Samurai. To become a Samurai, a lot of training is required. This training starts from age 5-7 years old. The Samurai wore a mask (on her head) to frighten any enemies. On her back is a pouch of spears/arrows for combat. The protectors on her arms are called sodes. On her head are two horns, called kuwagata. The dress/shirt is called a tsuru bashiri. They wear a belt around their waist, which is called a koshi o no. This is often used for holding their two swords. These two swords are called daisho.
Another important thing to the Samurai was religion. Religion played a part of a Samurai’s life because the Samurai believed in inner peace and self control. The most common religion for Samurai warriors at the time was Zen. Zen, like the Samurai, believed in meditating and self control. Because the Zen and Samurai beliefs were so similar, they went well together, making the religion appealing to many Samurai warriors. Religion taught the Samurai cleanliness on not only the outside, but on the inside too.
Samurai used a variety of weapons. For example, spears were common warfare weapons. Samurai carried two swords with them every hour of each day, and brought these swords everywhere. They were part of each Samurai. Samurai also used bows(and
