The Similarities and Differences Between Samurai and Knights
Have you ever thought about the medieval Knights and Samurai and what the similarities and differences are? During the late 1100s in Japan two large military clans called Taira and the Minamoto fought to control the country. The knights and Samurai were similar in many ways.The similarities between the samurai and knights were greater than the differences. This can be shown by looking at three areas: Social positions, training and armour, life, death, and honor.
The first area of important similarities was social positions. The evidence that the social positions are similar is that in Document A (social pyramids) it shows that there were lords and the supreme power was ahead of the warrior, the slaves and peasants were under the warriors. In Document B (ownership) it shows that they were obligated to get what their father had. Whatever their father left them at time of death was in their possession. These similarities are significant because it show that their positions are the same in both the Samurai and Knight society.
A second area of important similarities was armour and training. Armour and training are similar because in Document C (training) it shows that they had both become squires at the age of 14. …show more content…
Knights and samurai received the same treatment and they were treated with much respect, their armor was also developed the same way. There are also differences between the Samurais and Knights like the diffrence in paragraph three when I talked about life, death, and honor. Knights value life but the samurai thought it had the same value as death. Knights were just banished and shamed if they dishonored their codes, the samurai actually killed themselves because they couldn’t and wouldn’t be allowed to live with that shame.
