Samuel Rosario Case Summary

On February 27, 2017 officer Samuel Rosario and his partner responded to a domestic disturbance. A mother of two had called the police on her young daughter who had broken her glass table and assaulting her. As Rosario arrives to the scene, he walks to the front of the porch to confront the mother to get a statement of what had happened, next to her was a 19-year-old teen cleaning the shattered glass whom was the girl’s brother. Rosario questions the mother and tells her that her daughter will possibly face criminal damages. In the article it noted that the teen replied, “Criminal Damage? That's domestic.She should be getting two charges.”(Cullerton1). The article notes that he responded “Did you go to law school? Did you go to police school? Do you have a badge? Did you go the academy? So do you know the charges or no?(Cullerton1). They begin to dispute back and forth shouting and using profanity to one another on how things should be done, but the teen then demands for the police officer badge number however, he refuses to give it to him. Rosario taunts him and pushes the juvenile to do something after the teen tells him to go back to Mexico. In the video it shows that the officer loses his patience and tells the teen to fight him that he won't report it and responding to him “I'm right here man” “you want these hands”, as he keeps taunting him. After a while arguing Rosario goes up to him and taunts him one more time, in the video you see the teenager react and it starts to escalate into fist fights.
