Samuel Brady's Accomplishments

Samuel had experienced many accidents, and seemed to ride his luck in circumstances where death seemed a certainty. However, almost prophetically his death was one he had so often lamented about to Harry Harper, a close journalist friend. A death like that of another aviation pioneer, his good friend Charles Rolls. Samuel would often comment - ‘In an aeroplane, clean and quick.’
The populace of all Aldershot military and civilian collectively mourned Samuels loss with a sense of personal sorrow. ‘Cody’ as he was popularly called had become a hero to both the Army and the people of Aldershot. During his time at Aldershot and nearby Farnborough the public had marvelled at his achievements, gloried in his victories and talked of his inventions with a friendly familiarity, as if each were personally known to him.

Samuel’s picturesque personality and his indomitable pluck and perseverance attracted the attention and admiration of the public so compellingly that few were untouched by his passing.
The press competed to acknowledge the many significant achievements and accomplishments of ‘The Flying Cowboy’ as he was and will forever be known. All across the country dramatic front page headlines appeared, such as the one that appeared in the the London Evening Standard that day: ‘Col Cody’s Fate – Dashed to Earth from Water plane.
