Growing up in the little island of Haiti opened my eyes to the complex network of problems faced by individuals living in areas with limited access to healthcare and education. Haiti is a medically backward country stuck in a time capsule where disabilities diseases hunger and death plagues the impoverish people every day. At a young age, due to political turmoil, my parents were forced to send my sisters and I to America. Coming to this live in this country opened up a world of opportunity for me to take charge of developing myself both academically and professionally. Informational Interview For this assignment, I chose to conduct an informational interview with Claudia Romo, a Career Technical Education (CTE) Counselor at Rio Hondo College. The reason I chose to interview a CTE counselor was to learn more about the CTE Counseling and how different the student-counselor interactions are to general academic counselors. The informational interview provided me with a different lens in viewing community college as I discovered the different counseling objectives CTE counselors have to general counselors. These counseling objectives range from longer counseling sessions, direct employer interactions, job site field trips, and career related workshops.…

Growing up, I walked by Michael Jordan countless times at school, the park, Chuck E. Cheese etc. even now I see Jordan at least a couple of times a day. And of course, I am talking about Michael Jordan’s logo, the Jumpman on his signature shoes. Macklemore, a staple rapper in the field known for most likely his comical hit song, “Thrift Shop” recorded a song called “Wings”, and is probably the strongest punch in his album in my opinion. Even though “Wings” is about “just a pair of shoes” (Macklemore 2) and consumerism, I can make connections with some of the song’s meaningful lines despite not owning a pair of Jordan’s growing up.…

This interview took place in Dean Vargas’ office. As a first year advisor in the school of engineering, she has been busy in the past month assisting first year students in picking which type of engineering they are most interested in and helping them to plan their schedules for the upcoming year. This meant that she did not have the time to meet somewhere else. If this were not a factor, I would have suggested meeting in a cafe as that would have caused Dean Vargas to view me less as one of her many students and more as an individual woman, coming to her for assistance in navigating the unique set of circumstance women engineers need to navigate. I believe that as a result of holding the meeting in her office and not in a secondary location,…

Deceptive statements will contain more negative emotion words, motion verbs and exclusion words compared to truthful statements. In addition to the model, we expect deceptive statements to include fewer words and more positive emotions words than truthful accounts. Secondly, in line with the Reality Monitoring framework, we predict that participants will provide more perceptual, spatial and temporal information in their truthful statements compared to their deceptive ones. In terms of cognitive operations, we expect truthful statements to include more linguistic cues referring to cognitive processes and insight words. Finally, we expect that authenticity and analytic variables, new to LIWC 2015 version, will be higher in participants’ truthful accounts.…

Support Resource Interview Students with behavioral issues in school may not have access to the support that they need because the schools they are do not have the funding necessary to work with these students. These students have a higher chance of suspension, which causes a loss of information due to days of missed instruction (Stagman & Cooper, 2010). Services are available to combat the issues, but almost eighty percent of students with issues do not receive any services for their behavioral issues (Stagman & Cooper, 2010). Many times, mental health services are needed for these students. When interviewing two teachers from Sprout U School of the Arts about their support system for students, there were similar and dissimilar answers.…

Getting practice using the techniques we have been learning in real time, with a real person, made the content more concrete. I was conscious of employing solution focused techniques as much as possible in the short time we had to conduct the interview. While my performance produced mixed results, the practice was a good start to becoming an expert using the technique. Strengths and Effectiveness When reflecting on my performance, I was able to express to the client I was fully engaged in our conversation by intentionally implementing a variety of reflection strategies.…
