What is a Nurse? A nurse is a person who is professionally trained to care for the sick. “According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, registered nursing is among the top 10 occupations with the largest job growth. Nurses promote health, prevent disease and help patients cope with illness. They have a unique scope of practice and can practice independently, although they also collaborate with all members of the health care team to provide the care needed by each patient as an individual.” Nurses are health professionals who provide focused and personalized care. They provide care around your schedule according to your care plan. The field has a broad span of career opportunities, ranging from beginner level practitioner to doctoral level researcher.(ExploreHealthCareers) There are many different fields of nursing including, but not limited to, - ER nursing, Cardiac nursing, Geriatric nursing, hospice care and Neonatal nursing. One field that I am researching is Neonatal Nursing. I am interested in this field because I have always loved working with infants and I love to help people. Neonatal Nursing is a career that deals with a variety of circumstances ranging from prematurity, birth defects, infection, surgical problems, and cardiac malfunctions. There wouldn’t be any subspecialty of nursing without the basic foundation.
