Sample Of Toxin A & B

Decent Essays
The principle of this method is to show how both Toxin A & B can influence the body by the inflammatory response to the toxins.
With Toxin A this is a bad response as it can cause necrosis, inhibition of protein synthesis and it can also affect the intestinal permeability, as it makes it increase.
It is also known to affect the Phospholipase A2 in the body, so this then allows the production in prostaglandins and leukotrienes.
Due to all these responses occurring in the body, it also produces a viscous bodily fluid, and this is due to the response of when the tissues are damaged.

Pharmacodynamics: Ibuprofen is a NSAID with anti-inflammatory; analgesic and antipyretics effects are the results of the ability to block the cyclooxygenase (COX) enzyme system, leading to the inhibition of the synthesis of prostaglandins [6]. COX is the enzyme used for prostaglandin biosynthesis [3]. Both COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes are involved with prostaglandin production. The inhibition of these enzymes results in decreased synthesis of prostaglandin thus decreasing pain, fever, and swelling [4].…

Ammonia has direct access to the circulatory system and it is able to reach the brain. Only a small amount can leak through the blood-brain barrier , but if the levels of NH3 in blood are very high, then more of it will enter. An excess of ammonia is toxic and causes neurological disorders and damages, leading to a condition called Encephalopathy. As listed in the case, possible symptoms are disorientation, lethargy, slurred speech, behavior change and also motor skills impairments such as Asterixis and hyperreflexia. Brain hyperammonemia initiates a series of reactions with major consequences: swelling of astrocytes (glial cells) with related communication problems between neurons, and disruption of cerebral metabolism and energy production.…

. Leukotrienes are part of a lipid which is released from mast cell membranes, they often act similarly to histamines for they act on smooth muscle contraction, increased vascular permeability. They act in the later stages of the inflammatory response because they are slower and have a longer response than histamines(Huether,p207). Prostalandis are pain inducers they are a long chain of unsaturated fatty acids that come from the enzyme cyclooxygenase(Huether,p207). They are able to surpress release of histamines and mast cells making it harder for cells like neutrophils to attack them(Huether,p207).…

Botulinum Toxin is categorized as a neurotoxin. Having a fatal dose of merely one to two micrograms it is considered one of the most lethal neurological agents known. The toxin is a microbial product synthesized by an anaerobic, gram-positive, spore-forming bacteria Clostridium botulinum whose natural habitat is soil (Qiagen). There are seven antigenically distinguishable exotoxins differentiated by the use of the prefix BoNT followed by the letters A-G. Although each has a slightly different protein structure, the mechanism of action is fundamentally the same.…
