is defined differently depending on the care a nurse is delivering. (Kozier, Erb, Berman & Snyder, 2004) in their book Fundamentals of Nursing, discussed Florence Nightingale ideas of nursing as, “the act of utilizing the environment of the patient to assist him in his recovery” (p38). A person might not be recovering from an illness due to old age or life limiting illness, but still requires a dignifying environment and a nurse to help manage pain, emotion and spiritual support while going through an end stage of life. A nursing student have to attend an accredited nursing school to meet the state requirement to be able to take a licensure exam. Depending on the school nursing curriculum, students are required to fulfill clinical experience, a direct patient care in a controlled lab and perform the skills learned in a controlled lab or classroom on actual patients in hospital settings before graduating as a nursing student. After graduation, student will need to pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) in order to practice as a nurse. A new nurse can work as a registered nurse in a hospice related field for few years and can take hospice and palliative nurses certification exams like become Certified Hospice and Palliative Licensed Nurse (CHPN) to become certified. Some states or employers may require a national certification in hospice care. It is also recommended that hospice nurse participate in hospice care organization to keep them updated on all changes occurring in the Hospice care to better deliver a quality end of life care to the patients and loved ones. (National Hospice and Palliative Care (NHPCO 2015).There are also advance role opportunities for hospice care nurses to pursue a master’s level of hospice care because nurses with master’s degree are considered advanced practices nurses in hospice
