My Family Diversity

Improved Essays
My family tree is truly one that is filled with much diversity. My family has so many different types of nationalities that really shocks me when i began to interview my parents and grandparents.I found a decent amount of info on my mothers side regarding my moms side grandfather and mother and even my great grand father and mother. My dads side didn 't really have much but i could found a decent amount of info on what gives me such diversity in my ethnicity. To start my great grandmother on my moms side was full dominican. My mom only remembers so little about her because of how young she was when she had passed. we are not sure what her madian name was but her name was Virgina Morgan. she did not speak any english which made it extremely …show more content…
When looking at the diversity in my DNA you can see i am quite diverse with many types of backgrounds such as german, russian, dominican, irish, polish, and honestly so many more that I 'm not even probably aware of. Most of my family for gernations has gone into blue collar work that is helping people. both my grand mothers and mother went into nursing while i pursue a law enforcement styled career which my grandfather Ben had taken as well. I am one of four witch i would consider relatively a big family. my dad is the only one who had a bigger family which he was one of five. Now as i grow older and start planning my future i do not want many kids and would gladly settle for two. I would say education was relatively big amongst the woman in my family who all had gone to some kind of school after high school to become nurses and most of the men went into fields with there hands. my father was the only one to actually get a BA degree from a college. The other men either went to the police academy or joined a union. besides my moms parents nobody else in my family line including aunts and uncle have gotten a divorce. We definitely throw off the statistic because divorce today is above 50%. I really feel like i have a bright future with such a interesting combination of ethnicity and culture and appreciation for different types of religion. I truly feel with all the chaos going on today being a mix gives me an edge and the ability to see things from different view pints just like my grandmother and grandfather accepted echoers religion at a time when that was very

I have grown up in a country and time where progress has been definitive. It has been in the time that my feet imprinted this earth and my lungs breathed this air that the Supreme Court has passed a bill for marriage equality and in the last eight years my nation has elected the first man of color to lead our democracy. It is that man who has helped to cut carbon emissions while making true strides for equality. Equality is not found in the darkness of segregated spaces or within the confines of comfort. Tolerance and cooperation are constructed at the crossroads of diversity and conversation.…

My family and I consider ourselves to be primarily of Hispanic race and, more specifically, our ethnicity to be Mexican American. My mother’s side of the family is from the city of Guadalajara in Jalisco, Mexico while my father’s side is from the states of Sinaloa and Sonora in Mexico. So, it’s safe to say my family is very Mexican. Both of my parent where actually born in Mexico but were brought over to the United states as infants. However, if we go back even further three generations before me both sides of my family are actually from Germany.…

Growing up in a diverse community of Hispanics and Anglos I became aware of the differences in culture, race, and religions early. Although I enjoy diversity I also became aware of the challenges some populations face daily and noticed early on that these populations are underserved not just by the lack of financial resources and opportunity, but also by laws. My experiences living in Baker helped foment my interests in pursuing a career in the field of law and social work for the overall betterment of my community. During my first six years of childhood, my mother was a single mother left with the financial responsibility of supporting two young children on her own.…

I’m Mexican, I was born in Mexico but then brought over here to the US when I was around 3 years old. My whole family was born in Mexico and I’m the youngest child which means that all of my brothers and sister grew up for most of their childhood in Mexico and my oldest sister even got married over there. We eventually all moved over here and that resulted in our family being very culturally connected with Mexico’s culture. My mother is a strong believer in continuing cultural traditions even if we are in a different place. So she made sure we always knew a lot about where we came from or special traditions that were done in Mexico.…

In the scientific community, collaboration with others is necessary, and often, they come from an alternate way of life. Working with someone who may be different in many ways has numerous benefits; they may be able to propose ideas that you had not previously considered, or they could inform you of something that has the potential to assist you later in life. My heritage is one of mixed roots as many American families now are. The family gene pool is pulled from a variety of different ethnicities including Choctaw Indian, Irish and German. When America was formed the Irish were viewed as lower class and poor and this limited the work they were permitted to perform. My great, great, grandfather, who was Irish and German, married a Choctaw Indian lady when he was only 22 years old and has been in the country for only a short amount of time. The marriage permitted him to build his home on the Indian reservation in Tulsa, Oklahoma.…

Diversity is defined as variety, especially the inclusion of people of different race or culture, which happens to be the focus of most diversity initiatives. Diversity in the workplace began in the United States after the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act when the US American industry began to see new categories of workers such as women and those with disabilities. In today’s world, the United States is considered a “melting pot” of ethnic cultures. Due to globalization, diversity has become a huge part of the workplace and therefore it is important for organizations to focus on trying to find ways to deal with having a diverse workforce. As quoted in the article Reflections on Diversity and Organizational development “diversity is an essential…

During our lives, we are always taught that diversity is important. However, often we are never taught what diversity is and why it is important. Often, people think of diversity as different skin colors, different ethnicities. To me, diversity means different opinions, different values, and different cultures, not just skin color. If everyone thinks the same and does the same thing, no progress would ever be made.…
