She reported that she has been struggling with depressive symptoms such as depressed mood, a sense of worthlessness, recurrent pessimistic thoughts, difficulty concentrating, and recurrent suicidal ideation for the past 8 years. She indicated that her depression and anxiety negatively influencing her school work.

She stated that her family’s ethnocultural background is Hindu Indian. According to her, her father “doesn’t think [depression] exist” but her mother is more understanding of her struggle. She reported that her older sister, who is 27 year-old and currently attending a medical school, often makes joke out of her depression.
