She is a 20 year-old Asian American heterosexual female undergraduate student at UWB, who is a sophomore major in Biology.

She presented with depressed mood, anxiety, academic concerns, and suicidal ideation. She reported that she has been struggling with depressive symptoms such as depressed mood, a sense of worthlessness, recurrent pessimistic thoughts, difficulty concentrating, and recurrent suicidal ideation for the past 8 years. She indicated that her depression and anxiety negatively influencing her school work.

She came to her appointment on time. She was groomed well and dressed appropriately for the weather. She was orientedX4. She made eye contact throughout the session and answered my questions in a coherent manner without hesitation. Her affect was congruent

She reported that she passed all her classes in high school without difficulty.

She stated that she has been working at a bank since last year and has been working 30 hours per week. She mentioned that she recently requested to reduce her hour so that she would have more time to study. She said that overall, she enjoys her work.

She indicated that she lives off-campus with her parents and older sister. She reported that she has supportive friends and coworkers.

She stated that her family’s ethnocultural background is Hindu Indian. According to her, her father “doesn’t think [depression] exist” but her mother is more understanding of her struggle. She reported that her older sister, who is 27 year-old and currently attending a medical school, often makes joke out of her depression. Cherry mentioned that she often feels pressure to academically perform at the same level as her sister.

Although she discussed a feeling that she needs to meet her parents’ academic expectations, she also recognized that they have expressed understanding of her academic struggle and support in changing major if she
