Sammy Smith is attending 1st grade at Blue Ridge Elementary School. He is a very reserved child. He seems to only talk to one other boy at school, Ben. Ben and Sammy have similar interests such as, cars and Lego action figures. It appears to be difficult for Sammy to play well with the other kids at school, sharing seems to be an issue. Once he is given something, it is hard for him to give it back.
Sammy’s academic grades seem to be excelling in all areas. He really enjoys science and to be a part of a class experiment. When asked what he would like to be when he is older, Sammy replied “a doctor”. Other than having mild asthma, Sammy is a healthy, active, and intelligent boy. He lives with his parents, Michele and Jeffery, who both work full time. He has been in day care since he was 19 months old. The biological, cognitive, and socioemotional aspects of Sammy’s behavior are all based on factors in his development that I will analyze and discuss.

Sammy does have asthma which could be from the second-hand smoke, however, his father also has asthma so it could also be genetic (Santrock, 2014). Sammy is very healthy and is growing at the appropriate rate. He loves to be outside and does not seem to let his asthma slow him down one
