Throughout the story, Sammy faced the first challenge, which was how to get over his pre-occupation, and which was the appearance of the three girls walking into the store just in bathing suits. And that’s where Sammy’s last day of work started. In one second, the girls’ appearance caught Sammy’s eye, which he described as “a chunky kid, with a good tan and a sweet broad soft-looking can with those two crescents of white just under it” (131). Of what Sammy thought, his description did caught it right in his eye that interrupted his job.…

In the last part of the story Lengel (the antagonist) says to Sammy (the protagonist) after he quit his job that he will “always feel this”, Sammy is agreed with Lengel reaction because he knows that his decision will have more consequences than he though. Also, after Sammy quit his job the author let us know that Sammy’s family and Lengel know each other for years, which may make us believe that Sammy’s decision could damage the relationship with his parents. In addition, Sammy would never forget this because he knows that the world is not easy, no as he though “I felt how hard the world was going to be to me hereafter”. As we learn from the beginning, he was more interested in what the girls were wearing and how they looked to him, than much else. He conveyed the story with a mannerism not unlike most young men his age. But with that being said, his credibility for the truth may be slightly off balance.…
