In the book, “Sammie’s Essay” written by, John Updike, Sammie makes a decision to quit his job over a group of girls. I believe Sammie was put in the wrong position that led him down a negative path. Quitting his job caused him to lose out on income, embarrass his parents in front of his hometown grocery store, and leave his future uncertain. Historically, Sammie could be considered to be drafted into the military. During this time period, it was easy for men to be taken from their families. Even at a young age, War was an option for jobless Sammie. Losing out in income is not what any person would want. The loss of money each week would eventually cause Sammie to go broke. I know, in my opinion quitting my job would not be my first option.
