Kelly Jones a LGBT Resource Center Graduate Assistant at Saint Cloud State University spoke about the LGBT Resource Center, which is located in Atwood Memorial Center. LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender. The LGBT Resource Center’s mission statement is, “dedicated to providing an inclusive and educational environment for all SCSU students, staff, faculty, alumni, allies, and the community at large” (LGBT SCSU website). Along with being motivated to “promote full inclusion of LGBT persons and allies at SCSU and to eliminate homophobia and heterosexism on our campus and within our communities” (LGBT SCSU website).
The LGBT Resource Center provides Safe Space training certification, which lasts 3 years; once the 3 years are up, one must be retrained if they want to continue to be Safe Space certified. The Safe Space Program is intended to educate people on LGBT issues and the strategies needed for creating safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for everyone.

My aunt is lesbian, she has been with her girlfriend for a few years now. I remember asking her if once same-sex marriage is legalized, if her and her girlfriend Sara would get married. Her response was, “it doesn’t really matter to us if we get married, all it is, is a certificate and a party”. I had heard the same response from other gay and lesbian couples, and they’re right a wedding in summary is a celebration and a certificate. My aunt and her girlfriend are now engaged and pregnant, they are not rushing to get married, they just want to spend time with each other.
