Several people argue that being gay is a choice, and they compare it to being like a light switch that someone who is gay can just flip on or off whenever they want. The religious claim that homosexuals simply just prefer to like the same sex, and if they wanted to they could just go back to liking the opposite sex. But “blaming people for being gay is like blaming them for being left-handed”, they can’t change how they were born they can only embrace it (Eichenwald, Kurt). Logically, if a person were to choose to be gay they would be choosing to face brutality, persecution, and excruciating emotional, even occasional physical, pain. Research shows that being gay has to do with the neurons the brain transmits and your genetic history. New studies have proven that there is a correlation between sexual orientation and genes that affect certain chromosomes (Mbugua, Karori). But with all of the data and evidence from the research that’s being completed, people choose to stay ignorant and overlook the scientific facts that are being proven each day that passes by. Exodus 20:14 in the Bible articulates very distinctively, “You shall not commit adultery” (English Standard Version, Exodus 20:14). Yet in a study published in 2008, by The Journal of Family Psychology, when spouses were surveyed if they had ever cheated or been unfaithful to their partner, twenty percent of men and fifteen percent of women said yes (Parker-pope, Tara). Even though such a high percentage of men and women openly admitted to cheating on their spouses, there aren’t any riots or protests degrading these people. The Bible states that homosexuality is an abomination, but the Bible also states that a person shall not commit adultery.
