Marriage is most commonly known as the legally or formally joined union of two people as partners in a relationship. One of the common arguments against the sanction of same-sex marriage is the fact that most people believe marriage should only be practiced between a man and a woman. In my opinion, the only requirement that should be present for marriage would be love. A same-sex couple is as perfectly capable of being in love as a heterosexual couple. If a non-heterosexual couple believes to the fullest extent that they are in love and wish to legally wed, then they should be allowed to celebrate the same way heterosexual couples commonly would. For many people, finding a partner to marry is considered one of the most important milestones in ones life.

First and foremost, most people would consider the right to marry a basic human right. When we do not allow non-heterosexual couples to wed, it sends a message to society that we look down upon people attracted to the same sex. According to The Human Rights Campaign Foundation, “Same-sex couples want the legal right to marry [and] honor their relationship the greatest way society has to offer...” I believe to the fullest extent that we should allow people to marry whomever they please, and it is not in our right to judge others based upon whom they are attracted to.

When a couple gets married, they enjoy a variety of economic, social, and legal benefits. A very important legal benefit would be hospital visitation…
