The purchase of wedding necessities such as food, clothing, and venue can easily cost tens of thousands of dollars. In fact, Lee Badgett, author of “The Economic Benefits of Gay marriage” states that one wedding alone can cost well over twenty five thousand dollars. With the number of same sex couples in America, these weddings could generate 2.6 billion dollars in the next three years (Snyder). If that much money were put into circulation, many small and large businesses would benefit. The money being spent would generate sales tax as well. Snyder states that the fifty thousand same sex couples holding weddings in California alone, would create thirty one million dollars in taxes. This money it vital to the development and maintenance of our nation, as it goes towards education, health, protection, and so much more. Because LGBT people are now allowed to marry, it will be much easier for them to negotiate custody of children. It is often thought that same sex couples should not be allowed to raise children because they need both a mother and a father. This is far from the truth, as children raised by same sex couples are six percent, both academically and emotionally better adjusted than kids of heterosexual couples (Johnson).
