When we think of marriage, a man and woman usually comes to mind. We think about a commitment of two people. When two people plan marriage, they think about raising a family together, completely dedicating their lives to one another. People tend to forget about same-sex marriages though? In today society, about half of people in the U.S. support gay marriage, far less than those who are otherwise supportive of legally enforced gay rights (about 75%) (Bidstrup). Even though some people would disagree, the definition of marriage is having mutual commitment, to produce and raise children, and affection between one man and one woman. They feel it is a sin and that’s how it’s always been. Opposing side states, it’s difficult to teach the importance and traditions of the family when such confusion is thrust upon them (Messerli). We the people need to set aside religious issues and view the debate from a legal standpoint. Whether gay marriage or straight marriage it should be considered the same. This is technically discrimination to homosexuals. Regardless of someone’s race, gender or sexual orientation marriage is marriage. We know the main issues is because the Bible doesn’t agree with it. People against same-sex marriage is a form of prejudice. Gays and lesbian are humans just like heterosexuals. We can produce and raise children and have a stable commitment between one another. After all, marriage is a civil and emotional bond between two people who love each other. The opposing side feels homosexuality is unnatural and feels that we the gays are being greedy at picking switch side to claim. If a loved one was hospitalized and they only remedy was medicine, would we turn it down because it is unnatural? No. Today’s society has invented several of unnatural things into our culture and developed great progress. We would proceed with the treating of our loved one.
