Almost all or at least the majority of the citizens in the United States, would agree that they deserve the rights they are granted by the government. The opportunity to wed and marry the love of your life being one of those rights. Same-sex marriage has been a widely debated topic throughout the United States over the past couple of decades and has been unsolvable. Same-sex marriage is defined as the marriage between individuals or partners of the same sex. Same-sex marriage laws vary by jurisdiction. Rationally, do you believe that if same-sex marriage was banned within the United States, that gay or lesbian citizens would stop or change their lifestyles to be approved by another citizens? With the issue of gay marriage, not every individual is the same and with being a citizen of the United States; you should be granted your freedoms of living, no matter your race, creed or gender. However, same-sex marriage has long-term and short-term effects that effect themselves and the people in their lives.

They became the first state in the United States to legalize same-sex marriage and allow homosexuals to gain marriage licenses.
