Most try to support same sex rights and still not offend people of traditional marriage, but they end up supporting civil unions for same sex couples. Legal protections relating to wills and property, probate, adoption, spousal abuse, access to state employee group insurance, workers compensation benefits, family leave benefits and power of attorney are rights that civil unions include. However, these rights are only hand full of benefits that are given to the couples who are legally married according to the U.S. government. Civil union couples are not allowed to make medical decisions, to take sick leave to care for a partner, and the right to visit a partner in the hospital or in prison. By law marriages have a vast range of benefits in the matter of divorce. Child custody, automatic inheritance, domestic violence, joint bankruptcy, receipt of social security benefits, and also receive tax advantages not given to unmarried couples. There are a lot of churches that may or may not support same sex marriage the attitudes of churchgoers and believers are fairly different from church officials. Same sex marriage advocates believe that conservatives should not be allowed to pressure their religious belief on others who don’t believe in them as they do or deny an equal right just because they believe something different. Now there is an issue on if gay marriage should be discussed in schools, but most gays feel that you can’t shut children from the world of something that will be talked about everywhere.
