Imagine that you have finally found the love of your life. Someone that you want to have a family with, build a home, and grow old together. What if society denied you the right to marry this person? The right to pledge eternity to each other. The right to happiness. Unfortunately, this idea illustrates the everyday struggle of homosexuals. The movement for gay rights has always been an uphill battle. Despite animosity, people are continuing to join the gay rights movement and it has been publicized now, more than ever. In fact, the gay rights movement is so popular that it has even reached the heights of the hip-hop industry. Ben Haggerty, better known by his rap name, Macklemore, released the song “Same Love” in 2012. It underlines a powerful message of equal rights for humans. Inside the music video and lyrics of “Same Love”, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis emphasize the everyday struggle of being gay in a straight world in order to raise LGBTQ awareness and formalize same-sex marriage.
