Personal Inventory Assessment Reflection
Introduction
The Personal Inventory Assessment (PIA) is an assessment used to gain a greater understanding of one’s own abilities, preferences, and strategies. The information used in these assessments can be used for insights into the choices made in day to day operations, how conflict is handled, and the implementation of one’s personality into their work. The PIA consists of five assessments: Emotional Intelligence, Leadership Style, Managing Interpersonal Conflict, Influencing Strategies, and Work motivation. While I completed this assessment, I did not know of the three categories. I agree with my results because my feelings on my work change according to the day and the events that transpire. Somedays I am passionate, while others are just a mode of earning money. When I am feeling ambitious, I try my best to excel in my work instead of my normal. I try harder because I want to prove myself to my managers. I am a little shocked to learn that my highest scoring orientation is calling because I do not see my work at HomeGoods as meaningful, such as a work that directly benefits the community. It is recommended to me to recognize the things that I am passionate about and enjoy to lead a happier work life that matches a happy home life. To motivate a calling oriented person, a manager should allow reign to complete tasks, and I think that is what helps motivate me and gain percentage in the calling orientation group. After learning about the categories, I believe career orientation should have been the larger score because I strive for excellence always. Whether it be linked to my ego, I always want to do better than expected. To motivate career oriented workers, it is recommended to provide a ladder for employees to climb, as well as pay incentives and greater responsibilities. At HomeGoods, there is a ladder to climb with greater responsibilities, but falls short on pay incentives. As a loyal employee of three years, with continual skill increase, dependability, and overall improvement, they would provide a raise more than sixty cents. When I am irritated of work or something that makes working less enjoyable, I may lean towards job orientation. It is recommended to have time away from work to relax and take your

As many know, an orientation is a long, extenuating process that is used in order to provide vital information, whether it pertain to a job or even school. The information is drilled into each individual’s brain by repetition of words and even by words typed on a piece of paper. In Daniel Orozco’s “Orientation,” the reader can see that this isn’t just any normal orientation being given, it was more like an in-depth view into each employee’s life whether it pertained to the office or their personal life. With this particular short story, there is proof that this is a stereotypical view on an orientation, but with his use of repetition, humorous words, and lack of dialogue between characters, he truly captures the essence of what orientation…
