Samael: A Short Story

Improved Essays
"But how..?" It was a reasonable question, although one Amaimon had not intended to let slip from him, but the words had tumbled out long before he could stop them. Samael had been so strong, so powerful....who or what could have killed him. Lucifer? The two always argued and sure every now and then they had exchanged a few blows, but those were small scuffles and verbal fights....how could it have gotten to the point of murder? And if it had, wouldn't there have been evidence, or even just rumors about the castle? Wouldn't some one, any one have said something? Could it have been Satan himself? Oh yes, Satan could have easily done it, and he could have easily just made it look as if he'd disappeared. His father could have done it without batting …show more content…
Father told me I could have the both of you back if I surrendered myself to this place. If I gave up I could have you both again...blur he lied, he lied. Samael was born to me again, back into my own family and yet he didn't remember....I tried so hard to get him to see. To open his eyes. But he always refused, his death had ruined him forever....I'm so sorry...he's never coming back..." He was choking on his own tears by now, blubbering on and Amaimon was incredibly lost as his father spoke in a fast and faster pace, his voice chafing octaves in his sorrow until he could barely understand him. "T-the only time when he....when he seemed to remember anything at all was when you were born again too but that made no sense at all. I waited even longer for you and finally you were born as....as...this disgusting thing...this male...this squalling weakling boy and I tried to kill you...thinking maybe you had just messed up somehow. I'd try again, you'd come out fine, but Samael protested and raised you and it was disgusting. It was his gusting how happy he was, how he claimed to remember nothing and said I was crazy, but he still could feel you inside that fucking monster Amaimon....I hated it...I hated that shell of Samael the both of you are were abominations. Unnatural, incredibly sinful, putrid, squalling creatures." His voice was now spiked with anger. Anger beyond belief, so much so that he trembled with it, shook violently. He growled at Amaimon and clutched him close, hard and commanding, a sick laugh bubbling from his lips. "But...you! Look at you! You were so slow and so stubborn at fist I thought, surely you were going to be like him! Play it off like you didn't remember, yet cling to him like you used to! So I took drastic measures to get you

The idea of defining what it means to be human has stumped philosophers for centuries. However, Daniel Quinn's philosophical novel Ishmael: An Adventure of the Mind and Spirit tries to capture the downfall of modern society, and defines the members of modern society as “Takers.” In contrast, those who live in tribal and what modern society defines as “primitive” styles are considered “Leavers,” as they work with nature instead of destroying it. The world is complex and its future seems unclear, but what is clear is the destruction of nature as humans quest toward modernity. The price Mother Nature must pay for human to construct their elaborate skyscrapers, lavish suburbs, and amusement parks are a defining characteristic of the modern lifestyle.…
