John Updike’s “A&P” presented a story of a young boy, Sammy, who worked at a grocery store called A&P as a cashier from his father’s suggestion, five miles away from a nearest beach. Throughout the story, Sammy faced the first challenge, which was how to get over his pre-occupation, and which was the appearance of the three girls walking into the store just in bathing suits. And that’s where Sammy’s last day of work started. In one second, the girls’ appearance caught Sammy’s eye, which he described as “a chunky kid, with a good tan and a sweet broad soft-looking can with those two crescents of white just under it” (131). Of what Sammy thought, his description did caught it right in his eye that interrupted his job.…

For this stereotype I chose Tracy Morgan from 30 Rock, in the show, his character can be found joking and laughing. Sometimes Morgan’s character can be very lazy and reluctant to work. There is a lot to be done to change the inherent stereotypes placed on the black community by white society.…

In this natural, wild setting where survival is key, it becomes clear to the reader that Piggy will not make it off the island alive. The story is told in first person point-of-view so that the reader can see everything from Sammy’s viewpoint. There are two other characters in the story who are named Queenie and Lengel, this is how Sammy is brought to display. In Sammy’s perspective, we focus on his emotions, thoughts, and actions. More than six millions Jews were brutally executed in Nazi Germany, but before Hitler had gotten control of Germany, he used the fear of communism to gain power and control. That fear would help forge a world of violence and savagery that will never be forgotten. Similarly, Lord of the Flies is a book in which Jack, uses the other boys’ fear of a beast to turn their society into disorder and cruelty. In Lord of The Flies, William Golding uses Jack and the symbol of the Beast to convey how fear ultimately brings the downfall of moral civilizations, and spawns violence and savagery as a method of combating the fear.…

The action that begins their romantic engagement is hard to understand and presents a change in Sam reminiscent of Osteen’s explanation of the fluctuation in character used to describe Miles earlier. However, this change is stronger than a fluctuation in character—it is growth. In previous scenes, Huston suggests that Sam is not a guy who cares a lot about trust and faith, exemplified in situations such as his affair with Miles’ wife and his acceptance of Brigid’s ‘hush money’ even though he knew she was lying about the reason that she wanted Thursby followed. Yet, in this scene, Sam is willing to put Brigid’s trust, which for him is represented in the form of a romantic relationship, over any money that Cairo could offer him. This scene does…
