Biography
Samuel Shepard was born in Fort Sheridan, Illinois, on November 5th, 1943 the eldest of three children to a Spanish teacher named Jane Elaine and an alcoholic World War II bomber pilot named Samuel Shepard Rogers. Living in an always moving dysfunctional atmosphere would later shape his writing. After the travelling for his dad’s work, his family finally settled in Duarte, CA where he attended high school and began acting as well as writing; primarily poems. He worked at a horse ranch in Chino from 1958-1960 which is another part of his childhood that would influence his writing (Sam Shepard Biography). After graduating from high school in 1961 he began studying agriculture at Mount San Antonio Junior College in the hopes of becoming
