19 October 2016 A boy named Sam Moehligs was born as a girl but didn't like who he was. He decided to get a surgery to transition from a girl to a boy. Before the surgery Sam went through years of being very depressed, he had many suicidal thoughts. Ever since Sam was in kindergarten he knew something was wrong, he didn't feel right in his body, he loved playing sports and watching sci-fi movies. As he grew older he thought of himself as a boy, but then his body started to change, his breast started to grow in at around 9 years old. At this point he needed counseling due to his suicidal thoughts. He was diagnosed with Gender Dysphoria. Sam’s adopted parents were very supportive of this. Sam was adopted on Oct 20, 2000. They adopted him from his homeless birth parents, and had to tend to him because of his fetal alcohol syndrome. Until he was three, Sam had many different meditation and a feeding tube. After his counselling he took more of a masculine name, he changed his name from Samantha to Sam. Sam called this his “boy birthday.” Sam had a lot of support from almost his whole family, everyone accepted him except for one set of grandparents, but this didn't bother him to much. These are all things that can affect someone who is transgender and isn't allowed or isn't able to get surgery done to be who they believe they are. In the end I believe that people have the choice to be who they want to be who they want to be, and no one should stop them from doing that.
A person mental health can be greatly affected if they feel that their physical body does not match their gender. Children who feel like they are not who they're supposed to be tend to have high rates of depression and suicidal
