Sam watched as his parents were taken away. “Where are they going,” his sister, Savannah , asked. “They’re going on vacation,” Sam replied. “Will they come back?” Sam paused, wondering if they would. After that incident at the house, he didn't think they could. Finally, he said, “I don’t know.” A few months passed with Sam and Savannah surviving on their own. Sam having dropped out of school to earn money and pay off rent, and Savannah going about life as usual. His sister began to get curious as to why their parents had yet to come home from their supposed “vacation.” After having asked around about where her parents had gone, she concluded it had something to do with the house near the edge of town. Of course, Sam hadn’t noticed her sudden interest in the house, due to his many jobs, so when Savannah disappeared, he didn't know why.

The putrid dislike towards him was caused by the townspeople believing he had hid the bodies of the Johnson’s but no evidence supported that(he was far away from the last place they had been seen, was in public with friends who were with Sam at all times, and all his forms of communication and technology had been thoroughly examined with nothing indicating he was a

Here, Woodson is not saying that that home is actually leaving her, but that the memories and idea of home she had relied on emotionally for so long was muddled by what her brother experienced. This matters because whatever happened to brother it affected her as well, and affected enough that it spawned a story. All in all, Woodson is trying to demonstrate to the reader that perspective can change as your experiences change. In the beginning, Woodson felt that the south was an accepting, or at least safe place, but because of whatever happened to brother, this changed. In the end, Woodson realizes she would not always be protected at home.…

Isolated in a crater, surrounded by deep green mountains, sat Huoron, a squat little town of just over two thousand. On the outskirts lie quaint little cottages with outhouses that were empty now, only to be filled in the summer when people try to escape the ball and chain of modern life. The pure, untainted green of the forest seemed to draw less and less people as the attraction of nature became less and less desirable. As you look further in, the cottage scene is corrupted with dotted factories and tall, nameless buildings that loomed, almost pretentiously, over the humble homes of the little people. Rory Langley was a normal man, about to turn twenty-eight in two months time.…
