Salvation Culture Book Report

Improved Essays
This book connected to my own life in a major way because I never knew that there was a difference between salvation culture and gospel culture until I read this book. The reason I never knew the difference was because of my lack of hearing more about the gospel culture in my church. Ever since I was a little girl I can always remember hearing the pastor preach about our salvation, then who Jesus really is. I knew what sinning was and how we should repent, but I never knew about our Savior. I did not learn about the story of Jesus until I was in my adult years, and was able to read about him myself. Once I was to learn about Jesus I was instantly intrigued and wanted to know all I could about him. Even today when I attend church, my pastor

This is my review on the book Shattered Lives; This book was written by Camila Batmanghelidjh the founder of Kids Company; the registered charity was founded in 1996 with the aim to provide support to deprived inner city children. The author was born into wealthy family in Iran and arrived in England aged twelve where she attended private school. The book is sectioned into ten chapters, with an introduction and appendix at the end explaining who is who in the therapy world, and a guide to substance misuse. The book consists of several letters written to victims of abuse, which seem to be in the form of apologies to children who have been let down by the system.…

In “Salvation”, I felt the author made great use of action, stakes and reflection, just as Brian Reed explained in his video. For example, the action of visiting the church with fellow children who were labeled as “sinners, was quickly amplified by the anticipation of being saved. The story went on to tell of each child who gave in and received Jesus, but still to his dismay, he had not felt anything at all. I found myself interested in his coming thoughts, which was a great use of stakes. In addition, the reflection at the end of that night resonated a powerful message as well, for the reasons that his new discovery and realization of not being saved would forever change his perception of the faith he was brought up to believe.…

Mark Tranvik does an amazing job in translating Martin Luther's treatise: The Freedom of a Christian, where Luther contrasts countless religious components - the body (the inner person) and soul (the other person), and faith and works, - these subjects Luther's uses as an attempt to strengthen and return the Christian faith to its true origin. He argues that works have no effect in obtaining righteousness or salvation, instead it is a natural product of humanity. Instead, acknowledging that salvation is and righteousness is solely attainable through faith, which is the only true way humans can reconcile with God. For all rulers, nobles, Roman Catholic officials - all Christians alike- are held to the same standards of spirituality and faith. Luther is successful in his argument of faith over bodies of work to obtain salvation, when he draws support from scripture and historical context of that time.…

As main stream denominations continue to shrink and modern day evangelicalism has morphed into something more politically and conservatively centered, I found “Rescuing Jesus; How People of Color, Women and Queer Christians are Reclaiming Evangelism”, by Deborah Jian Lee, enlightening, profound and hopeful as it centers on new, out of the box ways in which people generally pushed into the margins, are redefining their evangelical Christianity. “Evangelicalism is anything but a monolith; it is a vastly diverse landscape”. Meaning, not all evangelicals are the same and perhaps what we think of them or how we envision them is way off the mark.…

To begin with, “Salvation” is a story about childhood experience in revival and religion. Every week there is a revival where people go to church and pray. In Christianity, people believe that they will be saved from their sins and that they will see Jesus when they pray.
