That view is quite at odds with the rhetorical tradition. Nevertheless, that tradition wrestles with the reality that facts themselves are produced by empirical observations, made more accurate through thoughtful scientific investigation. But once they are reported, the facts receive interpretation and the facts do not discredit rhetoric. In fact it gives it more credibility and relevance because the problem is not only in the detail, but also in the way the problem is being interpreted. Thus, we have the rhetorical problem of knowing the fact, interpreting the fact, and using it to make enlightened choices in this case, for victims to realize the depth they are in of their domestic violence relationship and make the choice to end their misery.
