In the book, “The Irresistible Revolution,” the main idea of the book was how to live a “true Christian lifestyle” which is based off of loving all of God’s humans, Christian or not, as well as God’s environment. In our class discussion of chapters one and two, a recurring idea is how some people who consider themselves Christians in church can act like good and righteous people helping others on Sundays, then turning around on Mondays and blowing off everyone else, just as long as they get the name of being a Christian in a church, rather than living and following the true Christian ways. In this book, the author also discussed that is some situations, you can find more people who live a Christian life lifestyle in a sewer than in a church.…

Throughout my childhood, I have always looked up to those who have been part of an elite organization, such as National Honor Society. When I received the application I was proud that my determination had paid off and I was now eligible to join National Honor Society. Before I moved to Miles I was part of the National Junior Honor Society, it was an inspiring occurrence that led me to become more involved in my community. I was able to help in Special Olympics, Relay for Life, and visit a Nursing Home. I now have the chance to join and help a community that has offered me great opportunities.…

The first thing we did at Feed my Starving Children was to watch a video about all of the starving children in the locations that we would be helping. I think that seeing them and seeing how bad and famined they looked really showed us the truth. We often only think about the people in our own country or the people that we see every day. When we are eating lunch or going out to dinner we do not think about the hungry people in other countries. After that we split up into groups that represented different countries that we would be feeding.…

I attend a small high school,Coosa High School, which is in Rome, Georgia. I love my school, but I also love the community that surrounds my school. Over the past three years I have been at Coosa High School, an issue came to my realization. Coosa High School is a Title 1 school, meaning that Coosa has a high percentage of children from low-income families, because of that my school is provided with financial assistance to ensure all students reach their goals. Due to the fact that Coosa is a Title 1 high school, the amount of students that receive free and reduced lunch is rather high.…

Statistics flashed across a screen, solemn music accompanied a slideshow of scenes showing desolate landscapes and impoverished communities. On screen, a mother held her starving child and a group of girls in mismatched clothes gathered water from a muddy well. We watched a presentation given to us before the service event and listened to the instructor as he described the conditions in other countries. He showed us photos of the people we would be helping during the mission, communities that were in desperate need of donations, supplies, and most importantly, food. The Lifeline food packing mission was my first service experience, which was the case for most of the students who participated, and it as also one of the first glimpses we had of just how bad the situations are in countries where starvation and malnutrition are so common.…

My project consisted of attending a worship service different than that my own. I chose to follow a friend to a non-denominational sect of religion at a local church called, Iglesia Cristiana Misericordia in Laredo, Texas. This opportunity was chosen because I had made a promise to my friend to at least attend one service to see the differences between the traditional Roman Catholic services compared to this non-denominational service. At the very beginning I was rather apprehensive because of my original upbringing to Catholicism and the fact that I was attending service I was not familiar with.…

The purpose of the organization is to help the families whose family member was injured, disabled, or killed during the war. We help them, with food, cloths, medical expenses, and many more. The organization now has a program that those family members who struggle and have a medical problem do not need to pay anything from seeing a doctor up to surgery expenses. This helps to ensure that even though they lost their loved one but there are still people who care and will take care of them.…

Community Gardens positive impacts -- US/Canada I have an interest in helping the poor and needy, and hungry. I think this is a wonderful learning opportunity to get funding for a project/idea that I’ve had in mind for quite some time. I believe we could help local places of worship use their grounds to start these gardens to help feed families & individuals in need of foods. How often have you driven by a Church, Temple, etc., and thought to yourself, "Look at all that land. How great would it be if the Church actually used that area to help teach the community about growing their own foods and sharing what they produce?…
