Salva’s strength and intelligence from trekking through Africa help him create his non-profit organization and August’s friendly personality and his comical attributes enable him to make friends in his new school. Due to Salva’s grit and intelligence, he is able to make it to New York for a better life and create his organization to provide fresh water pumps in Africa. Although the end of August’s story is different than Salva’s, they both escape their troubled situations. August’s friendly personality and humor, allows him to make friends and put a stop to bullying in his school. Both August and Salva are tough and persistent.
