Salva Dut Biography

When Salva Dut was just 11 years old war broke out in his country. He and 17,000 others fled to Ethiopia. In 1990 they had to flee again. Salva led about 1,500 boys to Kenya to another refugee camp. They stayed there for about six years. In 1996 Salva and 3,600 other refugee boys were chosen by the U.S state Department and the United Nations to go to the US, Australia, or Canada. Salva went to the US. At the time he spoke very little English and didn’t have much education.
In 2002 he got a letter from his cousin saying his father was alive but very sick. He hadn’t seen his dad in over sixteen years. So he reunited with his father. While he was there he realized again how bad it was. So in 2003 he joined a small group of

He ends up having to flee his village, Loun-Ariik, not knowing if he will ever see his family again.
