Nya. She is a girl also in Southern Sudan but, she is in the Nuer tribe and also she lives in a different time. Her village struggles to get water so, her struggle for survival in some ways is close to Salva’s struggle. Nya each day has to travel back and forth once a day to get water at the pond(we don’t know the name of the pond). Her and Salva both struggle to survive through each day but, not in the same ways and at the same age.

I’ve been taught this by reading about how Salva has been traveling through countries and had to survive in many different ways throughout the novel. Nya has taught me this through even though she had to travel to get water, her village eventually gets water and she can go to school much like Salva before he became a refugee. If you read the book entirely the book can paint a different image in everyone’s head but, the last thing I will say is Salva and Nya both survived through each of their
