Saltwater Vs Mars

Scientists discover dark streaks that appear and disappear seasonally, called recurring slope lineae, caused by saltwater. Each time, they appeared in the same places, near the planet’s equator. WHat scientists do not know is where the water is coming from. One possibility is that saltwater seeps from Mars’ pores and trickles down slopes as Mars becomes warmer. There is another possibility that the water is atmospheric (surface salts absorbs water vapor in Mars’ atmosphere).

As evident in figure 7, there are minimal “edges” to the rocks. Most, rather, are smoothed over. This type of physical weathering is a result of glacial activity that occurred ten to fifteen thousands of years ago during the Pleiothestine Epoch. As a one mile thick glacier, the Laurentide Ice Sheet retreated Northward over the surface of the rock, it smoothed edges, and created scratches in the rock, as evident in figure 2. A similar type of weathering also occurred on the white mountains.…

When he travels at night he can’t see any of the landmarks like the craters to help him know the direction he is going so he uses Phobos and Deimos to help him travel. “Mars doesn’t have a magnetic field. So I navigate by Phobos. It whips around Mars so fast it actually rises and sets twice a day, running west to east.…

Methods Study Area East Harbor is a 291-ha back-barrier salt marsh and coastal lagoon located within the Cape Cod National Seashore (CCNS), N.Truro, Massachusetts (Thiet et al. 2014a). East Harbor was artificially isolated from Cape Cod Bay in 1868 when the original 300-m wide inlet was diked due to the construction of a causeway for use by trains and automobiles (Portnoy et al. 2005). In 1894, a drainage system was installed that allowed freshwater to escape the system (Portnoy et al. 2006), but sea water could not enter the system due to a one way flapper valve (Portnoy, 2005; Smith & Medeiros, 2013). The exclusion of the tides caused the salinity to decline from 25-30 parts per thousand (ppt) into brackish water with a salinity of around…

It’s nothing but a vast deposit of salt and minerals that have run down from the canyon sides. The Basin is two-hundred-seventy-nine feet below sea level, or about ninety three yards. At first glance, it appears as if the Valley finally received some snow. The monochromatic ground is only distinguishable by its varying textures. Some areas look like the doing of a six-year old who rummaged the recycling bin: hexagonal Styrofoam plates, arrayed like tiles, are grouted together by shaving cream.…

The Salton Sea is one of North America's largest saline lakes, which was re-created by a levee break of the Colorado River in 1905. This transportation of water and exchanged energy converts from one state to another driving the climate and weather system. This is the largest chemical flux on the planet It does not look like there is a starting point for this cycle. Water stores in lakes and the ocean, transpires into the air creating condensation, precipitation back onto the planet's surface creating runoff, running into the ground creating ground water, and eventually making its way back to lakes and the ocean. This terrestrial system is continuous supporting life on the planet.…
