The artwork that I chose to describe for the stylistic characteristic of softened arhitectual is called Salon De La Princesse. Softened Arhtaectual falls under the stylistic period of Recoco. Germain Boffrand and others who helped with painting and decorating in the year 1737-1740 designed salon De La Princesse. This artwork can be found on page 584 of the textbook. The houses built for Recoco gathering were meant for the rich and powerful, so the interior was delightfully decorated, but plain on the exterior. Lines and panels were made into flexible and sinuous curves permitted the light to create a mirror reflection on the walls. Irregular or different painted shapes along with sculptures replaced the hallways. The color used in this salon

Looking at sculptures and paintings in person or in a museum rather than looking at them on a flat screen can drastically change the way you take in the artwork in many different ways. One good example is the Ladder for Booker T. Washington by Martin Puryear, which, in person, was vastly larger than I expected. When looking at an artwork in the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, you get to observe details and witness different focal points that you would most likely miss looking at a computer. In Mart Puryear’s artwork, size, focal point, and surroundings can be wildly miscommunicated through a photograph. Size is a very important aspect in Ladder for Booker T. Washington, which is why I was astonished on how large the artwork was in person, compared to images that I’ve seen online.…

Every day, from the moment we wake up to the time we go to sleep, our eyes are loaded with images we come across by; different people, an abandoned car by the side of the road, construction sites, and much more. As we go through our days we often get caught up in our busy schedules and miss out on the beauty of everyday sights that we have all too much have come accustomed to. Sometimes it takes artists to help us remember that there is beauty in the simple things and one such artist is Michael Stasinos. Michael Stasinos work captures the beauty of a variety of landscapes and people. Stasinos’ Wintonia Hotel, which he painted in 2003, is a piece that captures the resemblance of the hotel to those who view it through different elements and principles.…

q1. Plate 2, Yasumasa Morimura's "Daughter of Art History (1990)" appropriates a typical scene of 19th century life from Plate 1, “Manet's bar at the Folies-Bergere”, 1882. As acknowledged in the extract this artwork achieves its main meaning through male, Japanese artist Morimura impersonating the main subject of the painting, a young white woman. This combined with the detailed copying of many existing aspects of the original painting and a complex synthesis of new ideas and symbols with the old, creates a new mixed meaning that challenges the viewer to reconsider their ideas on gender, race and the history of art. Additionally, Morimura's playful, nude parody of Manet’s original is further heightened by his rendering of the artwork in…

I don’t think Louise Bourgeois’ abstractions are more powerful than straightforward depictions of the male and female body, but I felt Constantine Brancusi’s abstraction succeed in the task. I feel this way because I found the sculpture representation of the human genitals to be very minimal, although I found the meaning of the works to be thought provoking. For example, in the abstract sculpture,Cumul I by Louise Bourgeois, an individual can see mounds and oval/sphere shapes emerging out of the cloth. These spherical figures are supposed to represent breasts and penisis, but I found myself having various interpretation such as the figures could be bubbles or eyeball trying to break away from the fabric. I believe the artwork has more impact…

To begin, African American artist Kristine Mays creates life-sized sculptures of women’s garments. Reminiscent of a seamstress’ wire dress form, Mays creates sculptures from hundreds of pieces of metal wire that allow the viewer to see through the structure from all sides. However, the artist’s sculptures do not depict the traditional form of a static human shape but instead forms the contours of a garment and as well depicts folds and wrinkles that would be created if worn by a human body. Exhibiting her work primarily in California, Mays claims to “create the outer shell, the exterior of a human being, but provoke you to see what's within.”…

The world of art is big and being on the outside you don’t see everything, there are different roles in the art world the curator, dealers, artists collectors, etc. Each of theses roles have a relation with one another and view art in their own way, so an artist would have a different look on art compared to a collector, this may be clear to anyone, but even in one specific role there are varying opinions.
