Sally Ride was a very important physicist and astronaut. Sally was the first American woman who flew to space. Sally was born on May 26, 1951 in Los Angeles California. She went Stanford University and got a degree in physics. In 1977 NASA was looking for women astronauts. During that time Sally was still a student still she applied for the job and she was picked. Sally was one of the girls picked out of a thousand other appliers.
On June 18, 1983 Sally Ride became the first American woman to fly to space. Her job was to work on the robotic arm. The arm helped put satellites into space. In 1984 Sally went to space again.
