Imagine being captured by someone with no way of knowing if you would come back out of the situation alive. How would you feel? Most would feel terrified at that point; not knowing if they will live or die. When someone is captured by someone else and lives to tell of their story, that is called a captivity narrative. A captivity narrative explains the author's experiances of when they were kidnapped; like how they get separated from their family, not know if they will ever see them again.…

Sally Burt is the kindest woman you could ever meet. Many take her kindness for weakness, because she tends to be very passive, but don’t let her fool you, because she does have a feisty side. She is fifty-six years of age, but has the vitality of a twenty-six year old. She has dark brown eyes that sparkle every time she speaks; her light brown skin glows ever so radiantly as the sun hits her; she has thick, brown, short hair that caresses her shoulders. Her loving smile can brighten up anyone’s day; she stands tall at 5’6, and walks proudly, while loving her voluptuous curves.…

During her lifetime, she has to struggle with male dominance and oppression in order to achieve acceptance and fulfilment in her life. In the course of time, Janie regains her independence as a woman which allows for analysing her from the feminism`s point of view. The process of her development as a woman is visible through her three marriages.…

During the eighteen years I have lived my experiences have been fairly sheltered. I have never traveled out of the country, eaten exotic foods, or gone skydiving; consequently, I haven’t met many people of special interest. Not to say the people I have met are not interesting, on the contrary, most of the people I have come to know all have their own unique stories and experiences; however, I never did meet anyone quite like Miss May. To this day I can’t pinpoint what exactly it was about her that intrigued me so much, maybe it was her rich brown hair and almond-shaped eyes, or how she pronounced candy more like “kehn-dee”, or it definitely could have been the way her eyes lit up when she smiled—still she will always remain a mystery to me.…

Mary Rowlandson’s captivity narrative is made up of a hue of different voices that she uses to portray separate messages about what’s happening, what she thinks about it, and how she feels. Therefore, her captivity narrative has a varying effect on different readers. For instance, some readers may believe that Rowlandson has a very cohesive thought process throughout the whole of her captivity, because she uses these varying voices to prove one overarching theme to the reader: God provided the circumstances which gave her the ability to survive the captivity. However, other readers see several contradictions or discrepancies in the way she writes, because of the different voices she uses. For example, Rowlandson leads the reader in one direction for a passage, then she flips her writing to reflect the opposite idea.…

Sally Donovan, codename AV (audio/visual), named so for her tenacity and propensity at being the Fusilier’s eyes and ears when he’d gone to ground, didn’t have a single problem with letting that nasty bastard hang underneath the airship. After all, you could barely hear his hysterical shrieking over the thunder and rain. Danny Milford (codename Captain, for obvious reasons), on the other hand, was the esteemed pilot of the Northumberland and made damn sure the poor sod didn’t end up splattered on the side of a building, or worse, falling to his death. So, they continued at a slow place and high altitude, all lightning rods in place, while the Snake prayed for his life and pissed his pants, in that order.…

Readers are forced to confront the truth in Patricia McCormick’s book, Sold, wherein a young girl named Lakshmi is sold into the realm of sex slavery. The suffering and horrors faced by the girls in the brothels act as a rather unsavory eye opener to readers. In the brothel, women’s rights and equality exist solely as a dream. Basic human rights are not afforded to the women and girls.…
