Why 24 People Died of Jealousy
We have been studying the salem witch trials in social studies and trying to figure out what caused them. After a lot of time studying, I have decided that jealousy is what caused the Salem Witch Trials.
If you have never heard of them, the Salem Witch Trials, It was a big hysteria where people of Salem village accused other people of being a witch. This happened in 1692.
Why do I think it was jealousy? Because in document E, it says that the people on the West side of salem were pour and had no political power. The people on the East were rich and had all of the political power. On the west side, there were 33 accusers and one accused. On the East, there were 2 accusers and 17 accused. This makes me think jealousy because the poor people were …show more content…
There were also 24 more women accusers then there was men. 76 of the 134 women who were accused were married. 23 of the women who were accusing were single women. Coming from my own knowledge, the married men were usually richer than anyone else. All of this information tells me jealousy because the single poor women were probably going after the married women for their man’s money.
In document A, it tells me that 19 of the people who were hanged were women. It also says that 3 of the four deaths in jail were women. This tells me that 22 of the 29 people who were killed during this time were women. This tells me that the Salem Witch Trials were caused by jealousy because, again, there were more woman then there were guys. That makes me think jealous because they were attacking the women of the town and not the men. They were probably attacking the women that they were (accused) so the women who were accusing (accusers) could have the men that the accused were married too.
