Where is Saipan? "Saipan is the second largest island in the Mariana Islands archipelago, after Guam. It is located about 120 mi (190 km) north of Guam and 5 nautical miles (9.3 km) northeast of Tinian, from which it is separated by the Saipan Channel. Saipan is about 12 mi (19 km) long and 5.6 mi (9.0 km) wide, with a land area of 115.38 km2 (44.55 sq. mi)." This information is from wikipedia geography. The goal of the war was to take over Saipan and send B-29 Super fortress bombers to go bomb the home land of the Japanese. The battle lasted 15 June- 9 July 1944. The outcome was an American victory. Allies that died during the battle 3,426 killed and 10,364 wounded. Japanese 24,000 killed and 5,000 suicided and 921 prisoners.
